On a recent trip to St. Louis, my friends and I stopped to break up the drive, and ride the skatepark in Louisville Kentucky. It’s always baffled me, the wonders, and amazing treasures in the heartland of America, things like The gateway to the west, famous landscapes, historical landmarks, and grown men, in olive green jumpsuits at amazing skateparks, holding bottles of fancy tequila!
The first time I had ever heard of of Avail, was sometime around 1992, when My friend Ange came home from NYC, from some kind of Hardcore show matinee. At the time I was a teenager living in upstate Ny, we didn’t really know Punk music still existed, or at least I didn’t, I thought all current music was metal, hardcore, or college style music, I had no clue. When Ange gave me a copied cassette tape of Avail’s Satiate album, he described it as punk music from some new band, like it was as foreign a concept, old music from a new band.
I listened to that tape, and Avail on and off ever since, eventually seeing them live in the mid 90′s curious as to the role of the cheerleader dude, the whole style of their songs, and appreciating how awesome it all was.
Years have come and gone, and I’ve seen more Dixie tattoos than I can count. Avail almost seemed like common knowledge at this point…
The other night I shot some pics of Tim Barry, who sang for Avail, playing old style acoustic music, at My girlfriends thrift store. I imagine a 17 year old kid discovering Tim Barry now, being as confused and intrigued by his songs as I was to Avail nearly 20 years ago.

I shot this photo with a new phone I got, some of the recent updates have been vie the phone camera…Not the best photos, but I have my phone with me more often than the Nikon.
In this pic, are some Skeletons of the some ramps, A backlot to an unfilled graveyard and a city that was partly burned down in the 1860′s, after a civil war in our country ended, and the retreating confederate soldiers burned many buildings on their way out of town…
A lot has changed since then, I mean heck, they definitely didn’t have cameras on their phones back then, but sadly enough, a lot of things remain the same.
I shot this photo of my lil buddy Chief Wiggum, on Monday. I have shot so many pics of this dude over the past couple of years, and spent so much time just hanging out, he became a big part of my life. He had to be put down on monday, after a sickness he couldn’t beat, and I had to say goodbye. For Better or for for worse, I was with him until his last breath, and put him to rest in the backyard. It made me sad, although I am happy for the time we had together, and it makes me smile to know such a little guy could have such a positive impact on so many people. Miss you dude!

Many people my age find themselves submerged in pursuit of their own version of the American dream, a nice car, a home, credit card debt, a college education to pay for, maybe some kids, a favorite sports team, etc…
All that’s fine and dandy, although I am confused often as to my own role, in life, and society, as I lay in bed in the wee hours, awake from the pain of a self diagnosed bruised liver. Not from drinking, but from a wreck almost 2 weeks ago on a bmx bike. Granted the steady diet of low cost domestic beers over thee years did nothing to combat said scenario…
Was that sharp static pain in my side real or was I dreaming?
